Handbridge Neighbourhood Plan Area Census Information

We have published information specific to the Handbridge Neighbourhood Plan Area from the 2021 and 2011 national census.

There are 2200 households in the Area. The population of the Area in 2021 was recorded as 4600. 87.7% of the residents in the Area were born in the UK, compared to 82.6% for England.

Comparison with the data from the 2011 Census indicates that the population of Handbridge has increased by around 12%. The principal changes are:

  • A 124% increase in the Age 15-19 band.
  • Slight reductions in the Age 25-29 and Age 30-44 bands.
  • A 40% increase in the Age 45-59 band, possibly reflecting the attractiveness of the Area for families with older children and ‘empty nesters’.
  • Increases in the Age 65-74 and Age 75-84 bands, possibly as a result of older residents staying in the Area rather than moving to accommodation elsewhere.

The Age Profile of residents indicates a number of differences compared to the England age profile:

  • There are significantly fewer residents aged up to 44 except for the Age 15-19 band.
  • The Age 15-19 band has many more residents than the England average.
  • There are significantly more residents aged 45 and above than the England averages, particularly in the Age 50-54 band and Age 70 and over band.
