This working group will consider whether Handbridge can be sensibly divided into a small number of areas with similar design features which can then be the basis for neighbourhood development policies.
Initial thinking is that there are five areas to consider: The Conservation area, Queens Park and river edge, Central area east of Eaton Road, Education area west of Eaton road, and Belgrave Park area south of Eccleston Avenue. There are not set in stone though and further designation or subdivision may be necessary.
The working groups task will be to ask itself whether or not there are distinct design features in these areas, to identify and numerate them and consider whether or not they should be used as standards for any new development.
For example, the height of buildings and colour of building materials may well be important development standards? In addition there will be a need to consider whether any particular designs should be protected as is the case in the conservation area.
The stakeholders who will need to be consulted include Residents, Businesses and Education establishments.
Methodology will have to be considered for example, surveys or door to door leafleting and using consultants to advise on design codes may be necessary. These are the first tasks of this working group but more may be added as he group gets to work.
What do you think?
